"DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE?"

The Missing Children Awareness Foundation, a state registered 501(c)(3) child safety charity, was founded in July of 1984 to make the public/private sector aware of the problem of missing children, child abuse, molestation, and ways of preventing these problems.  The Foundation provides many services to the community concerning child welfare, safety, and security.  These programs are geared toward making the community safer for everyone and ensuring the safety of the children.

The United States Department of Justice conducted a five-year study of the missing children problem.  The publication, titled "Missing, Abducted, Runaway, Throwaway Children in America" concluded that an estimated 936,500 children in the above categories were missing at the time the study was ended.

PHOTO-ID AND FINGERPRINT PROGRAM

Through the years, we have strived to provide the parents with the most accurate identification records of their children.  This was accomplished with our Photo ID programs.  The Foundation has provided millions of parents a photo ID and fingerprint kit that can be completed in the privacy of their homes.  The kit contains all necessary information to properly describe the child, including a place for the recent photo, thumbprint, physical description, dental ID chart, personal information and DNA hair strand.  The newest kits have a note recommending having a complete footprint.  The kit can be given to the police if the child becomes missing.

 BOOKS AND LITERATURE

The book "Preventing Missing Children", which was compiled by the National Association of Chiefs of Police, was purchased and distributed to schools, groups, parents and law enforcement agencies, many of whom use them in their crime prevention and police training.

Some of the literature available includes Profile of A Child Molester; Exploitation of Children; Fire Safety; If Your Child Disappears; Non-Custodial Abduction; Bicycle Safety; and many more.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

The Missing Children Awareness Foundation, Inc. has an 800-phone number that can be reached from anywhere in the United States.  The 800 number generates many phone calls from parents of runaway and missing children.  The Foundation then sorts these calls to determine the exact nature of the call and then will refer to an organization that best serves their individual situation.  Although the Foundation does not actively look for missing children, we are glad to refer these individuals to the proper organizations.  This phone number can also be used for an individual requesting information regarding missing children, home identification kits for children and safety subjects.

The Foundation has a library on various subjects ranging from child security to missing children topics.  Any interested individual may request information on the numerous subjects in the library.  The books Preventing Missing Children and Schools Without Drugs are available, as is the coloring book Good Touch, Bad Touch.

The Foundation owns video and electronic equipment.  A symphonic auto repeat video system displays posters or prevention information at special functions.  The Foundation has purchased the Step Program in video and booklet form.  The Step Program is the systematic training for effective parenting.  The program is available on a loan basis.

In the past, the Foundation has participated in activities such as safety days, festivals, conventions, parades, school functions, safety fairs and many other functions.
